If you’re a homeowner and you wish to reduce your energy consumption, you could be entitled to claim a provincial tax credit corresponding to 20% of the portion of an individual’s eligible expenses that exceeds $2,500, up to a maximum tax credit of $10,000 per eligible dwelling. All this in order to encourage eco-friendly, ‘green’ home renovation.
Since October 29, 2013, and for 12 months only, you can benefit from the ÉcoRénov tax credit if you have a qualified contractor carry out eco-friendly renovation work on your principal place of residence or cottage. With this policy, the government of Quebec wants to stimulate private investments, job creation and environmental protection.
To qualify, the work must meet government standards in terms of environment and energy efficiency. Various types of eco-friendly renovation work are recognized:
•Insulation of the roof, exterior walls, foundations and exposed floors; •water-proof and air sealing; •installation of doors or windows; •installation or replacement of heating, cooling, hot water or ventilation systems; •etc.
A complete list of eligible projects can be found on Revenu Québec website.
